The SRX team was very familiar with Lil CG, the adorable mascot for Cologuard, having produced social content with the character for years. So long, in fact, that the original 3D renders from a high-end vendor were getting stale. My team proposed—and sold—the idea of getting more actions and poses through virtual production. We rebuilt and rigged Lil’ CG for the game-engine Unity and held a 1 day “shoot” where one of us wore a motion capture suit and acted scenarios and gestures, all of which the client could see applied to the character in real time.

Fast forward a year and the SRX CGI team was further exploring game engine options in Unreal and decided to try to make a simple game. Since we had the character already, we through in Lil CG as a cute placeholder. Right around then, SNL did a brilliant (and disturbing) parody of the Cologuard broadcast spots. In past years, the brand would’ve been horrified and ignored the viral press. This time, however, they reposted it on their official accounts! Buoyed by this we made a proof-of-concept platformer version.
