Every day, schizophrenia patients get trapped in a cycle that they can’t escape: the pressures that lead them to stop taking their medication send their once-stable lives off-kilter again. Most HCPs rarely encounter their patients outside of a clinical environment. Our client wanted something different—a big statement that would bring HCPs closer to the problem and get them excited to learn about the pressures of relapse. The answer: an escape room!

We created a detailed biography of Matt—a composite patient who was likely to encounter multiple pressures to relapse—and built the experience to be his room in a group home. With audio clues, 1-6 players had 5 minutes to find all of the hidden objects in the room. With each clue found, they learned facts surrounding each type of pressure. Embedded screens provided gameplay instructions, data and a countdown. A leaderboard outside the room recorded and factored the number of clues and the time it took each team to find them, keeping the attract screen updated with the spirit of competition. We also had an amazing fabrication and programming partner in AXIOS NYC.

Debuting at the May 2019 American Psychiatric Association conference the Relapse Escape Room was a resounding success: 100% booking for the entire event, with participation numbers doubling the count of the previous year's booth visitors.
